A blog dedicated to spreading awareness on and destigmatizing conversations about all topics related to women’s reproductive health.
If women have a longer life expectancy, why do they spend a higher proportion of their lives in poor health?
The gap in women’s health corresponds to 75 million lives lost per year, due to poor health or early death. Eliminating this disparity would give every woman in the world 500 more healthy days in her lifetime. Yet, despite such a clear indicator of the medical system’s failure to support women, a mere 5% of global research funding addresses female health concerns.
Why is this a problem? Due the controversy and shame surrounding women’s reproductive health, there is an infuriating lack of research into female-specific health and a persistent sexist, illogical viewpoint in clinical trials of male bodies as the “norm”. As a result, women do not receive care based on sex-specific evidence, resulting in adverse effects from medications at twice the rate of men.
At Fertility Focus, we aim to spread information on general facts, current events, and insight into the topics within women’s health. Our blog makes these facts about female-health related issues accessible and easy to understand. We hope to encourage women of all ages and backgrounds to learn more about their reproductive well-being as well as the inequities that plague the field of women’s health.
